About The Briar Street Theatre
The Briar Street Theatre is located on North Halstead. Designed by the late Walt
Topel, founder of Swell Pictures, the theatre's layout is flexible both in terms
of patron seating as well as conversion to film and television production. A

including Marlo Thomas, Mickey Rooney, Veronica Hamel, George Segal, Sada
Thompson, Ellen Burstyn, Dorothy Loudon, Shelly Berman, and Betty Buckley.
Since opening with the world premieres of David Mamet's The Shawl and The Spanish Prisoner, the Briar Street has hosted many long-running and critically-acclaimed productions including the internationally-acclaimed, Poppie Nogena; the pre-Broadway engagement of Barbara Cook: A Broadway Evening; Neil Simon's Broadway Bound and Laughter On The 23rd Floor; Woody Guthrie's American Song; Her Gardner's I'm Not Rappaport; A.R. Gurney's The Fourth Wall; and the Pulitzer Prize-winning, Driving Miss Daisy.
